BIO 535 - Aquatic Microbial Ecology
Inconspicuous microscopic organisms control many ecosystem level processes. This course will explore the diversity, abundance, distribution and activities of planktonic microorganisms (e.g., virus, bacteria, protozoa, phytoplankton and zooplankton) in freshwater and marine ecosystems, by examining the role these ubiquitous microbes play in food web processes and biogeochemical cycles. Offered summer semester every third year. Prerequisites: Graduate standing or permission of instructor.
