Requirements for a Major in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM)

Business Cognates

The hospitality and tourism program offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The program combines a directed sequence of field experiences with a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum consisting of courses in the arts and sciences, business, and hospitality and tourism.

1. General University Degree Requirements

As identified in the General Academic Regulations section of the Grand Valley State University Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog.

2. Hospitality and Tourism Core Management Courses

Core Credits: 35

3. Hospitality and Tourism Management Field Requirement Credits: 7

4. Hospitality and Tourism Management Concentrations

(Credits: 18 minimum*)

Complete two of the following six:

1. Meeting and Event Management

2. Tourism Management

3. Lodging Management

4. Food and Beverage Management

5. Recreation and Leisure Management

6. Department Approved Customized Concentration (for example):

Please consult the HTM department chair or assistant chair to obtain a program of study for concentration number six. *Note: HTM 253 and HTM 318 can only be taken once and cannot be counted in more than one concentration (no double dipping).
