Badge in Cannabis Operations

The School of Community Leadership and Development badge in cannabis operations (not a degree or a certificate) is designed to prepare students who work (or aspire to work) in the retail cannabis industry. Skills and topics covered in the badge include:
- Understand cannabis cultivation, historical stigma and prohibition, legislative reform, and current allowed adult usage. Recognize complex battles with reform, social justice, and restorative justice. Identification of cannabis' social, economic, and environmental impacts on tourism communities and hospitality organizations.
- Develop an understanding of the importance of cannabis retail management to the cannabis industry and local communities. Understand appropriate practices to purchase, store, and distribute various types of cannabis products.
- Explain both the positive and negative practices health-related and sociological outcomes associated with cannabis use and legislative reform.
Program Format
The cannabis operations badge is comprised of three courses (9 credits).
Admission
This badge is open and available to current enrolled GVSU students by selecting its election in Banner. Non degree-seeking students can be admitted into the badge by contacting the School of Community Leadership and Development office.
