CLAS Internship Fund Support Request

Winter 2025 APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

The CLAS Dean's Office, the Robert Nelson Foundation, and the Community-Based Work Study are all support structures for engaged learning. To apply for the CLAS Internship Support Fund, students must complete this application form and provide detailed information about their internship, including the organization they will be working with, the duration and nature of the internship, and a statement explaining how the experience will contribute to their academic and career goals. 

Eligibility 

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate students with at least one major in the GVSU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

  • Registered for at least 1 credit of internship (I.e. 490).

Deadline

  • Applications for the Winter semester are due by Friday, January 10.

To apply for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Internship Support Fund, students must complete this application form and provide detailed information about their internship, including the organization they will be working with, the duration and nature of the internship, and a statement explaining how the experience will contribute to their academic and career goals. Additionally, students should include a budget outlining their anticipated expenses and any other sources of funding they have secured.

Funding Sources

Student applications will be reviewed by a committee in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). Students will be awarded between $1000 and $2500. Your budget should include (a) estimated expenses such as the cost of daily transportation, housing, etc. and (b) estimated additional sources of support such as other University-based funding (please indicate sources). 


Please note there are a variety of different funding sources to support internships at Grand Valley State University. Please speak with your faculty advisor if you have any questions or schedule an appointment with the CLAS Center for Experiential Learning.

Funding through this application is only available for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that are participating in an internship for credit. The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Internships that are not completed for academic credit. 
  • Summer research opportunities mentored by a GVSU Faculty member –summer research projects are eligible for funding through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship.
  • Entrepreneurial projects that do not have a clear student learning objective or mentor/supervisor in place.
  • CCEL reserves the right to determine whether an application is ineligible on a case-by-case basis.
