College of Education and Community Innovation (CECI) Dismissal Appeal Process
As stated in the GVSU catalog, A dismissed student may apply for readmission after a period of one calendar year. Evidence of maturity and improved attitude toward academics and the written support of the student’s academic advisor must accompany the application for readmission.
- The College of Education and Community Innovation academic programs require you to meet with a faculty member from your major department AND an academic advisor from the CECI Undergraduate Advising Center to discuss your appeal before we can determine if a letter of support will be provided for your packet.
- Please review the information in the links below and call (616) 331-6890 to discuss an appeal meeting and provide your availability for a meeting.
- We will get back with you to confirm a meeting time which may take up to 2 weeks depending on the availability of all parties involved.
**Dismissal appeal packets must be submitted to the records office no later than 10 days prior to the start of the semester you wish to return. You must contact the advising center AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to that deadline to ensure we have time to schedule your support meeting**
Things to keep in mind:
- Readmission to the university is NOT guaranteed.
- Your advisors have the right to decline your request for support.
- Readmission to the university does not guarantee reinstatement of financial aid. This requires a separate appeal. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at (616) 331-3234 for information.
If you are denied readmission to the university:
- You can repeat or take additional courses at a community college to demonstrate your academic abilities and improved attitude towards being a successful college student.
- Analyze your academic and career goals. Do some research on areas in which you have interest and investigate pathways to achieve your goals.
- Volunteer or work in your community to gain insights into your goals and aspirations.
- Look for full- or part-time work to gain experience while reevaluating your academic and career plans.
