Indian Trails Camp is under the umbrella of IKUS at Aman Park in Grand Rapids. IKUS helps individuals with disabilities to discover their potential, experience greater freedom, learn new skills, and have fun in a safe environment.

Since 2008, GVSU Occupational Science and Therapy (OT) has worked with IKUS: Indian Trails Camp for the benefit of our students and the incoming camp counselors. The counselors learn from the OT students how to care for the campers including proper transfers, feeding techniques, how to use the sensory room, and adapted dressing techniques.

Another area of involvement at IKUS includes OT students completing fieldwork at the Life Skills center to assist individuals in maintaining and increasing their independence.

In addition, OT student research projects have been completed at IKUS providing valuable information to the camp and real-life research experience for the occupational therapy students.

Recently (2/7/23) there was Interdisciplinary community collaboration with IKUS/Indian Trails Camp director Joe Woodruff, OT (Jeanine Beasley), and the Biology Department (Dr. Eric Snyder and Dr. Mark Luttenton) to formulate a plan to clean up Root Beer Lake at IKUS

In short this community partner has been a mutually beneficial relationship for both GVSU OT students and IKUS.
