Grand Valley State University & University of Michigan PharmD Preferred Admission Program
The PharmD Preferred Admission program provides an exceptional opportunity for qualified GVSU students to gain admission to the University of Michigan’s College of Pharmacy (UM-COP) PharmD program.
Up to eight (8) Grand Valley freshman will be granted conditional assurance of admission to the College of Pharmacy at UM-COP each year. These students will earn their bachelor’s degrees from Grand Valley knowing which courses to take to best prepare for the PharmD program at UM-COP. As long as they meet the PharmD admission requirements, these students will have reserved seats in the UM-COP’s PharmD program setting them on course for a successful career in pharmacy.
There are two pathways available to gain admission into this program which are described below.
Phase I (for Incoming First Year/Freshman)
- Apply for admission to GVSU before December 31 of senior year in high school
- 3.5 or higher overall high school GPA
- Complete at least three years of high school science with a “B or better”
- Complete at least four years of high school math with a “B or better”
- Personal essay describing interest in healthcare and the field of pharmacy
- Resume detailing your extracurricular involvement
- Two letters of recommendation
Phase II (For First Year/Freshman at the Completion of their First Year)
- Completed 24 credits in their first year of college at GVSU
- 3.0 or higher overall GPA at GVSU
- “B or better” in all college science and math courses
- 3.5 or higher overall high school GPA
- Complete at least three years of high school science with a “B or better”
- Complete at least four years of high school math with a “B or better”
- Personal essay describing interest in healthcare and the field of pharmacy
- Resume detailing your extracurricular involvement
- Two letters of recommendation

- January 14, 2025 at 7pm EST - Virtual Information Session with GVSU and UM-COP. Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link.
- February 3, 2025 – Deadline for UM-COP Preferred Admit applications.
- February 2025 – Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy review all Preferred Admit applications.
- March 2025 – Applicants will be notified of their endorsement status.
- May 1, 2025 – Applicants must respond to offer of admission.
- Summer 2025 – Attend GVSU New Student Orientation.
