Faculty Funding Opportunities
The following internal and external sources of funding may be able to financially support your community engagement work.
Internal Opportunities
Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence Grants. The CSCE offers a variety of grants that encourage a creative approach to research on the part of faculty and staff at Grand Valley. View their list of grants for up-to-date information about these opportunities.
Pew FTLC Grants. Pew FTLC offers a number of grants each year to support excellence in faculty teaching and learning at Grand Valley. View their list of grants for up-to-date information about these opportunities.
CLAS Research Cluster Grants. CLAS and CSCE will co-fund grants of up to $5000 annually for projects in each research cluster. Successful applications will request funding for projects focusing on one of the five Research Clusters (Borders, Brain, Health, Urban, and Water) and will involve students, include participation of faculty from 3 or more disciplines (sciences, humanities, and social sciences), demonstrate how collaborative effort will help solve the question/problem under investigation in a way that individual effort is less likely to do so, include plans for dissemination of results internally (e.g. faculty research colloquium, SSD) and externally (e.g. conferences, publications, and use the grant as seed money to help with seeking external grant funding for the project. Special consideration is given to funding requests for projects that include a community engagement component.
Sustainability Reinvestment Fund. The Reinvestment Fund has been established through the contributions of various departments and auxiliaries including: Finance and Administration, Laker Food Co., UBS, Student Senate, and the Sustainable Community Development Initiative. Faculty and students will have access to grants for sustainable development projects both on campus and in the community. The goal of the fund is to support projects that can be replicated across the university, working in support of GVSU's goal of becoming a national leader in sustainable practice.
External Opportunities
Association of American Colleges & Universities: Bringing Theory to Practice. Seminar, program development, and demonstration site grants to build capacity for engaged learning, civic engagement, and civic development.
Michigan Campus Compact. Michigan Campus Compact offers grant opportunities to member campuses to support community service, service-learning, civic engagement and campus-community partnerships.
