Self-Compassion Workshop
Welcome to the UCC’s 3 week online program on Self-Compassion. The goal of this program is to provide an overview of the importance of self-compassion and to provide you with tools and skills to begin to practice self-compassion. The program will also provide recommendations for additional readings, videos, and resources.
What is Self-Compassion?
Self-compassion is an approach to how we treat ourselves that can lessen the experience of one’s distress and improve your relationship with yourself. Dr. Kristin Neff, a leading researcher in the field of self-compassion, defines this as “extending compassion to one’s self in the instance of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering.” The experience of self-compassion can be similar to treating yourself as you would treat a close friend. Self-compassion is often a learned skill and can be practiced and improved with time.
