Understand what stress is:
Identify the signs and symptoms of stress:
Physical Signs/Symptoms
- Fatigue
- Sleep trouble
- Stomachache
- Nausea
- Chest pain
- Muscle tension
- Headaches and migraines
- Sweating
- Weakened immune system
Emotional Signs/Symptoms
- Loss of motivation
- Irritability
- Anger
- Anxiety
- Depression or sadness
- Restlessness
- Inability to focus
- Mood instability
- Decreased sex drive
Behavioral Signs/Symptoms
- Unhealthy eating (over or under eating)
- Drug use
- Alcohol use
- Social withdrawal
- Isolation
- Nail-biting
- Constant thoughts about stressors
Practice coping with stress:
1. Deep breathing Exercise
2. Adopt a “prevention” mindset.
Prevention - do activities repeatedly over time to help prevent stress instead of only using coping skills to remove unwanted feelings in the moment.
Over the next few weeks we will focus on the four types of stress:
- Time
- Anticipatory
- Situational
- Encounter
