About:

The "Michigan's Regional Identities" survey is an online initiative designed to explore how residents across Michigan perceive and define their regional identities. This survey seeks to uncover the varied perspectives that individuals from different areas hold, from bustling cities to serene lakeshores. Your insights will help us map these regional identities, enhancing our understanding of how different areas influence local culture, view outsiders, and self-identify. By participating, you contribute to a broader conversation about regional identity and language use in Michigan and its impact on personal and community life.

The Survey:

This online survey is voluntary and will take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete. You will be asked various questions about your 1) basic demographic information, 2) perceptions of what it means to be a Michigander, Yooper, or Troll, and 3) how cultural activities, community involvement, and language use shape these identities.

While participation in each question is optional, providing a valid zip or postal code is crucial, as this information will be used to plot data on a map, offering a geographic perspective on how regional identities are distributed across Michigan.

Participation:

To participate in this survey, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen,
  • Have been raised in or have lived in Michigan,
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
