February 2025 Board of Trustees Update

On February 21, 2025, the GVSU Board of Trustees acted on a handful of items related to GVSU-authorized charter public schools.
First, the board approved the reauthorization of the following six schools with the recommended lengths of the new contracts:
- Detroit Achievement Academy (7 years)
- Byron Center Charter School (5 years)
- Light of the World Academy (5 years)
- New Paradigm Glazer-Loving (5 years)
- Oakland Academy (5 years)
- PrepNet Virtual Academy (5 years)
The Board also approved the authorization of Grove Montessori: A Wildflower Public School, a new school that will serve families on the southside of Grand Rapids.
Finally, the Board approved the appointments and reappointments of 42 total charter school board members. The GVSU Charter Schools Office is thankful for the 33 board members who renewed their service to their community school, and is excited to welcome the following 9 individuals as new board members for GVSU-authorized charter schools:
- Karen Lemieux -- Detroit Enterprise Academy
- Woodward Williams -- Detroit Merit Charter Academy
- Javier Rivera -- Grove Montessori: A Wildflower Public School
- Leon Hendrix -- Grove Montessori: A Wildflower Public School
- Michael Fravel -- Grove Montessori: A Wildflower Public School
- Megan Cottrell -- Grove Montessori: A Wildflower Public School
- Lorrie Miller -- Hillsdale Preparatory School
- Frank Dame -- Vanguard Charter Academy
- Judith Berry -- Windemere Park Charter Academy
