CAEP accreditation reviews COE

On March 10 through March 12, 2019, the College of Education (COE) went through a national accreditation review by CAEP, the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation programs. This three-day on-site review examined all aspects of the COE’s teacher preparation programs to determine if the COE meets CAEP's national standards.

In the past, the COE has been accredited since 1988 by NCATE (the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education), and has successfully undergone an accreditation review every seven years. In 2013, NCATE merged into CAEP, which oversees the continuing accreditation status of the COE.

The CAEP on-site review on March 10, 11, and 12, 2019 will lead to a verdict from CAEP in late 2019. Until the verdict from CAEP is received in late 2019, the College of Education remains accredited by NCATE.

The focus of CAEP is for teacher preparation programs to engage in continuous improvement and development. As CAEP’s website explains, the COE must be able to provide “evidence that the provider’s graduates are competent and caring educators.” Faculty and staff must regularly collect and maintain program evidence, and use this evidence to maintain high quality programs.

Additional information about the College of Education's accreditation is available on the COE website's Accreditation page.
