Dean's Award for Outstanding Master's Project - 2019-2020
June 08, 2021
On behalf of Dean Sherril Soman, the College of Education congratulates the winner of the 2019-2020 Dean's Award for Outstanding Master's Project, Sally Triant with her project titled, Growing Elementary Education with Curriculum Founded in Place. Sally graduated from the Elementary Education program, and Dr. Kelly Margot served as her master’s project advisor.
The Dean’s Award for Outstanding Master’s Project and Thesis was established in 2010 to recognize outstanding student research and applied scholarship at the graduate level. Project and thesis advisors nominate worthy projects each year, and then winners and finalists are determined by a review committee composed of College of Education faculty. This year, from the 263 master’s projects completed, 8 were nominated for the award. The review committee named one winner, along with 3 finalists:
-
Raquel Ramirez, Adult & Higher Education
Teaching Race: A Professional Development Program for Preservice Teachers Focused on Developing a More Critical Understanding of Systemic/Structural Racism -
Alexandra Evans, School Counseling
Elementary College and Career Readiness Curriculum: A School Counselor Intervention -
Amanda Watson, Literacy Studies: Reading
Improving Reading Comprehension in Arabic English Language Learners
We commend the efforts of these graduate students and trust that implementation of their projects will grow the field of education and benefit students. Their projects will be added to the award collection housed on GVSU’s ScholarWorks. Additionally, we recognize the work of the award review committee: Dr. Leanne Kang, Dr. Min-Young Kim, Dr. Kelly Margot, Dr. Caryn King, and Dr. Elizabeth Petroelje Stolle.
