Teaching and Learning Department
The Teaching and Learning Department provides courses and fieldwork for all undergraduate Education programs and several graduate Education programs at Grand Valley State University. This includes studies in:
- Birth to Kindergarten Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
We provide professional expertise to our students and ensure programs meet accreditation requirements. The department works closely with content-area departments throughout GVSU to ensure students receive the content knowledge and classroom management skills needed to be successful educators.
Faculty members in Teaching and Learning believe all students (regardless of their circumstances) deserve well-prepared educators dedicated to their work. Professional educators first serve their students, families, communities, and states in which they work.
Our service in teaching is informed by professional standards, which educators set and to which we hold ourselves and our peers accountable. An ethical code governs educators. This code acknowledges the learner as central to teaching and schooling. Our code also recognizes and embraces differences, and insists that educational decisions are made with the learner's best interest in mind.
Finally, we believe in the importance of our theoretical and scientific knowledge base as a source for education decisions.
