Beaver Island Field School Application - Summer 2025

The Beaver Island Field School will take place from June 8 – June 28, 2025. It will be led by Dr. Kelly Parker (parkerk@gvsu.edu) and Dr. Rebecca Williams (williarj@gvsu.edu).

ENS 380: Beaver Island Field School is a 3-credit course; it can be used to satisfy any “Social and Cultural Perspectives” requirement in the ENS major or minor.

There will be a 2-hour, in-person orientation session in Allendale on June 8. Class will meet online (asynchronous) from June 9 – 14. We will be traveling and staying on Beaver Island from Sunday, June 15 – Sunday, June 22. All graded work will be due by June 28.

Enrollment in the class is limited to 12 students and requires instructor approval. Please submit the following information to be considered for participation in the Field School. Applicants will also be asked to have an interview with Dr. Parker before final acceptance.

Timeline:

  • Application priority deadline: March 3
  • Interviews: March 7 - 11
  • Acceptance notifications will be sent by March 14
  • Registration in Banner begins on March 18. View the Registrar Calendar.
  • Waitlist decisions will be announced as spaces become available, through May
