Crystal Scott-Tunstall holds a Master of Science degree in Forestry and a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant and Soil Science from Southern Illinois University with concentrations in Urban Forestry, Environmental Interpretation, Horticulture, and Grant Writing. Scott-Tunstall is a Stanford dSchool trained Design Thinking practitioner. Scott-Tunstall is a food systems specialist and a community education specialist. Scott-Tunstall serves on several boards and committees, including Kent County Food Policy Council, New City Neighbors Urban Farm, Urban Agriculture Committee of the City of Grand Rapids, the Essential Needs Task Force Food and Nutrition Coalition, MI STEM and the NAACP Environmental Justice Committee. Scott-Tunstall has received several awards for her work in the classroom, coordinating student internships and providing student professional development including the West Michigan Environmental Action Council’s (WMEAC) Educator of the Year award, Grand Valley State University’s Sustainable Champions award, and GVSU Women’s Commission Unsung Hero award.
