ESSU Company Tours
Dow Corning
October 01, 2010
The Enterprise Systems Student Union (ESSU) traveled to Midland on Friday October 1st, 2010, where Dow Corning’s corporate headquarters located, for a company tour and internship program presentation. Escorted by Troy Farley of career services, twelve of the ESSU’s members met at the downtown campus and departed for Midland by 6:30 am with bagels and orange juice compliments of ESSU. Reaching Dow’s Headquarters around 8:30 a.m., the ESSU members were greeted by a campus recruiter, and lead to a conference room. Employees of various Business/IT fields then gave presentations on numerous topics ranging from Dow Corning’s background and products, “A day in the life of…”, Dow Corning’s SAP implementation and modules, and their summer internship program. After the presentations, the ESSU members were taken on a tour of Dow Corning’s data center and were able to interact directly with a member of the server administration team. This specific part of the tour was quite interesting, and proved to be a majority favorite among the group.
Dow Corning then treated the ESSU members to a lunch from their large cafeteria. There was a full variety of delicious choices including everything from Panini’s and stuffed chicken, to a salad bar and desserts. After eating lunch, the group then traveled to a plant where they were introduced to interns currently working at Dow Corning. The interns then gave presentations on projects that they personally had been working on to enhance product and material tracking. The ESSU members returned to Grand Valley’s Pew Campus around 4:00 p.m. after a very informational and educational day, as well as a better understanding of Dow Corning as a company. They personally forward thanks to Troy Farley for driving and accompanying them, as well as Dow Corning for the opportunity to tour their headquarters.
