Description: Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation - Clinical Exercise Physiologist

Cardiac rehab specialists conduct and interpret physiological data from stress tests, prescribe exercise, and work with a team of cardiologists and nurses.  Work settings include : inpatient Phase I rehab, Outpatient Phase II and II and cardiology offices (ECG stress test technician). Typical job placement would be in clinical setting. 

 

Credentials

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science (most positions)

Master's degree in Exercise Physiology (desirable, also for advanced positions)

 

CERTIFICATIONS

ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) – Recommended by first year of hire

AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP) - Depends on Setting

Active CPR Certification

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Stress testing

  • Cardiac rehabilitation internship

  • Familiarity with blood pressure assessment and oxygen saturation

  • Working with patients with a range of cardiopulmonary conditions

  • Working in Phase I, II and III environments

  • Familiarity with cardiac imaging technique

  • Patient education
