Health Fitness Instruction Emphasis

This emphasis focuses on the psychological and sociological principles underpinning Exercise Science and prepares students looking to work in settings such as Corporate Wellness, Community Health, and Strength and Conditioning. It is an excellent area of study for those students looking to continue into graduate or professional programs such as Exercise and Health, Public Health Administration, and Occupational Therapy.

The following courses must be completed to fulfill the Health Fitness Instruction emphasis requirements:

MOV 201 Psycho-social Aspects of Physical Education and Sport

MOV 310 Motor Skill Development

BMS 223 Human Infectious Diseases

PSY 310 Behavior Modification

PSY 364 Life Span Developmental Psychology

SOC 286 Sociology of Health Care - Gen Ed

 


Potential Substitutions

If you are on a Catalog year prior to 2018-2019 HFI students may substitute for the following courses:

CIS 150 (any 3-credit 100+ level course not in the major)

CIS 231 (any 3-credit 200+ level course not in the major)

SOC 252 (any 3-credit 200+ level course not in the major)

NOTE: MOV 102 can NOT be waived, even if have current CPR/First Aid certification

Program Grade Requirements

EXS 490 pre-req = EXS 420 minimum grade B-

EXS 390 pre-req = EXS 320/321 minimum grade B-
