Description of the Organization
E3 Compliance is a small organization that solves many issues for companies seeking EMC related help. These issues come from a range of industries including automotive, medical, commercial, aerospace, and military.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I did a variety of tasks, some were day to day tasks which include several types of testing such as radiated/conducted emissions and radiated/conducted immunity. These tests would include working with customers, modifying products, and assessing data. Other tasks completed were long term projects that benefited the efficiency of the lab such as generated lab reports and creating profiles for testing standards.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I've learned the importance of documentation and gaining information before starting a project. Running a test for a customer can be difficult when there is no information on what a failure of a product would consist of or how to set up the product correctly. Gaining as much information and understanding how a product/test works is essential when assessing data.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op was also one of the more challenging tasks I had. I needed to create a conducted power immunity test using a coupling/decoupling network. This was an entirely new test in the program and for the others in the lab. I had to tediously read and apply the testing requirements and program them into the software we used for running tests. It helped me gain a better understanding of how the tests were setup and ran.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has brought a greater understanding to working in a team and the challenges one faces when creating a product. While running tests for those developing products, I got inspired to eventually be apart of that industry. It is exciting watching new products start as an idea and develop into a final product.
