Experience Information
Employer: L3Harris
Job Title: Test Engineer
Major: Electrical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No
Description of the Organization
L3Harris Technologies is a large company as a whole but I had the privilege of working in the Commercial Avionics Solutions sector. L3Harris (CAS) has three buildings one in GR, one in St. Pete FL, and one in Phoenix AZ with around 1,450 employees. A wide variety of business men and women as well as engineers work together to create and sell avionics products such as displays, flight data recorders, and different types of transponders as well as satellite communications. They also offer pilot training and flight data analytics.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My daily tasks for this rotation varied since there are around 200 test stations that need to be sustained at the GR site. Tasks daily could range from software updates/debugging, to hardware/circuit trouble shooting and debugging. The main tasks I completed were ordering parts for two new stations worth over $100,000 and creating new electrical drawing packages for the new test station. Other than those tasks I made a few larger software updates to improve testing efficiency by adding new libraries.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained more electrical circuit debugging and troubleshooting as well as PCB debugging. I also gained more experience with C programming and the process used at L3Harris.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op experience was successfully using the tools taught in school in a real world application as well as working with a supportive and helpful team at L3Harris.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has made me decide that I would like to pursue a career in avionics systems whether that is at L3Harris or another avionics company.
