GMCH Co-op 2

Experience Information

Employer: General Motors Components Holdings LLC
Job Title: Test Engineering
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No

Description of the Organization

GMCH is a manufacturing company for valve train components. The plant also has an advanced engineering team which includes product design and testing in-house, which is unique to GM.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked on completing testing that was requested by the other engineers. Some specific tests were system response and component response of a new valve train system; component durability and robustness benchmarking of alternative materials on cam phasing components, and some EOT component measurements for the diesel engine programs.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I learned how to run a cam phaser GED, how to tear down and rebuild an engine, and how to complete visual analysis and documentation of results with detailed pictures.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this co-op was working on the component response test for a new valve train program, because it brought some experience working with fluids, which I have not taken a class on yet.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has opened me up to the idea of being a test engineer, though I would still like to do product design.
