VanData was founded in Grand Rapids, MI on April 7th, 2015 by Nick VanderLaan. Today, VanData is composed of energetic, talented individuals, each bringing their own ingenious solutions to the company. Diversity is an integral aspect of the VanData culture today. VanData believes adapting for the future is key for organizations to maintain profitability and remain sustainable. We have numerous database development and implementation projects that provides the instantaneous information companies need to survive in today's world, and to prosper in the future. https://www.vandataconsulting.com/ The company is composed of a team of 16 members. One out of the 16 is Nick VanderLaan, the Founder & Principal Consultant. There is a Business Development & HR Manager, Chloe, and a social Media & Marketing Manager, Leana. The rest of the 10 are full time Business Intelligence Developers, and the remaining 3 are the interns, inclusive of me ofcourse!
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
· Assist with data collection, processing, and analysis using various data tools and software · Help develop data models and visualizations to support business intelligence reporting and analysis · Collaborate with development team to create crystal reports, BI and SSRS reports for clients · Conduct research and data analysis to create and support business decisions · Collaborate with team members to identify areas for improvement in data analysis and reporting · Participate in team meetings and provide input on project progress and status updates
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
My SQL Programming skills. I write a lot of SQL queries everyday while developing crystal reports for the clients we work for here at VanData Consulting LLC. I learnt how to design very robust crystal reports, optimize report generation performance, perform QA testing on client systems, and so much more. We hold Business Developers' meetings every three times a week which is very key in building effective communication skills as we talk about the projects we have been working on, the challenges and successes that we encountered in between.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My best part of this job is getting feedback such as; "Hi Grace! The users are happy with the report! We can consider this ticket as closed. Thanks for your hard work on this." This is feedback I got from a client based in Richmond BC Canada, who needed one of their reports optimized. I improved the performance timing for reading database records to generate this report from 966938ms to 117ms.

This internship has had a profound impact on shaping my future career goals. The experience has instilled in me an unwavering belief in my abilities and potential. It has cultivated an empowering mindset that says, "I can do anything." Through the challenges, opportunities, and successes I've encountered during this internship, I have gained invaluable skills, knowledge, and confidence that will undoubtedly shape my professional trajectory. This 'I can do anything' attitude fuels my aspirations, driving me to set ambitious goals and pursue them with unwavering determination. I now approach my career with a sense of fearlessness, embracing new challenges as stepping stones to growth and success. With this newfound perspective, I am eager to explore uncharted territories, take on diverse roles, and make a meaningful impact in my chosen field.
