Description of the Organization

Attwood Corporation is a marine industry supplier based in Lowell, Michigan that creates marine products for boat builders ranging from marine stove tops to boat navigation lights. The company is a subsidiary of the world encompassing Brunswick Corporation, employs over 300 employees in their headquarters location, and utilizes a divisional organizational structure.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

On a weekly basis, I performed a variety of tests on products ranging from those sold at local big box department stores to products newly developed from Attwood's engineering department. I also worked with my fellow engineering co-op students to develop a new product for the company, as well as on an individual project for the lab.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I learned how to properly operate sensitive testing equipment as well as how to properly document and report my findings in a timely and efficient manner on a professional level.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this co-op experience was getting to work with co-ops from other colleges on a common project. I learned a great deal from their different perspectives and I've learned to appreciate my chosen major in a way I would not have had I not met them.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has solidified my goal to become a mechanical engineer and I now strive forward toward my goal with greater vigor.
