Description of the Organization
Padnos is one of the largest metal, plastic, and paper recycling companies in West Michigan. Padnos has 15 customer centered locations, and 7 service locations spread out between Holland, Alma, Lansing, and Northeast Indiana. The company was started in 1905, and has been growing ever since. The company is Family owned and has been operating over many generations.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
OSHA compliant guarding- from machinery to handrails for raised platforms. Platform designs for machinery, large scale material storage and transportation solutions- such as custom scrap bins and semi truck trailers. Multiple small scale projects to improve workflow and upgrade machinery.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Weldment/fabrication design with Solidworks, introductory AutoCAD designing, project management skills, material handling knowledge, field engineering skills, and materials science knowledge.
Favorite Part of the Experience
The broad scope of projects and multiple locations meant that there was something new going on every day.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I would like to get more involved in design engineering after being introduced to basic design projects.
