Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester was split between the Whitehall, MI campus and the Morristown, TN plant. In Whitehall I worked primarily on a special project throughout the semester, on which I was lead project engineer and designer. I also worked on small furnace updates and system redesigns. In the Morristown plant I worked primarily as a project engineer helping to design the layout for the new plant going up the middle of next year. This involved a lot of quoting and working with the plant to define their process and what improvements can be made in the new plant.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This semester really taught me how to effectively manage a project and define a process. It is very hard to manage a project if the problem is not properly identified; worked a lot more with people this semester than design, which was refreshing but I really love design.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was finally getting to see my project go from concept to testing. The project involves totally redesigning a current process so it is amazing to see peoples heads turn when they see this system running and it's potential.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It definitely makes me appreciate getting to work on something new every day; this point is going to be front and center regardless of where I end up working. Its also why I wanted to be an engineer.
