Favorite Part of the Experience

Before stepping into my position as video coordinator, my perspective was limited to the experience of being a player. I never fully appreciated the immense amount of time, effort, and coordination that goes into making a successful football program. This behind-the-scenes role has opened my eyes to the operations that support the players and coaches. The work is not just about what happens on the field; it has shown me the meticulous planning, strategy, and collaboration among coaches, trainers, and support staff. Taking on the responsibilities of video coordinator has presented me with numerous challenges that have tested my leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Overseeing a group of student assistants has been both rewarding and demanding. I've learned the importance of setting clear expectations and fostering a collaborative environment. Each student assistant plays a vital role in our shared goal of maintaining a high standard of quality in our game film.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Working with the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) football team has been an experience that has not only deepened my understanding of the sport but has also helped me discover valuable insights about myself. One of the most significant revelations has been my passion for teaching young men about football. This role has allowed me to share my knowledge and love for the game, guiding aspiring players as they navigate the complexities of football and their new life at GVSU. Looking ahead to my career in Sports Management, the skills I have developed during my time with GVSU football will undoubtedly serve me well. The ability to lead a team, communicate effectively, and manage multiple responsibilities are essential qualities in this field. As I transition into a full-time role, I will carry with me not only the technical knowledge of football operations but also a deeper appreciation for the teamwork and leadership required to run and manage a championship football team.
