Description of the Organization
E3 Compliance provides pre-compliance, diagnostic support, and high-speed circuit analysis for automotive, medical, and other miscellaneous companies. The company is very small and consists of four employees as of now.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During the third rotation of the co-op, I worked with clients to run a variety of test such as Radiated Emissions (RE), Conducted Emissions (CE), Bulk Current Injection (BCI), Radiated Immunity (RI), and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Compared to the prior rotations, I was a lot more independent working with client's to perform these tests. I also worked on the diagnostic aspect of the products to understand how the product circuitry was producing failures and how to reduce these failures (debugging).
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
EMC design support such as schematic layout, PCB layout troubleshooting, and pre-compliance testing procedures for a wide variety of tests and standards.
Favorite Part of the Experience
The best part about working here was working with new client's and their products on a daily basis. Although some of the tests are the same in terms of the standards that need to be followed, each product is different and requires its own troubleshooting. It feels like there's something new each day and never repetitive. It's also neat to work with a wide variety of products before they are shipped out to be sold on the market.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Working in EMC has broaden my views of what the field has to offer. I've developed an appreciation for EMC testing and how it affects products that I personally use on a daily basis. With that said, I want to stay in the area of EMC, as it can be applied to anything that involves active components.
