Description of the Organization

Trans-matic is a deep-draw metal stamping company that contracts work from various and diverse industries. It currently has four production facilities located in Holland MI, Mesa AZ, Monterey Mexico, and Suzhou China. There are around 250 employees at the Holland facility.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I handled the responsibilities of a tool design engineer. As this was my third co-op semester, I had significant experience and was given corresponding responsibility. I led several design projects of varying size and complexity. Most of my time was spent doing design work in a CAD system.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I learned how to lead a large project, how to manage time and balance responsibilities, and many finer points of how metal stamping works.

Favorite Part of the Experience

The things that made this co-op enjoyable were equal parts meaningful design work and the people here at Trans-matic.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Because of this co-op, I have been exposed to metal stamping as an industry and found it to be one that I enjoy and find fulfillment in. I am looking into the possibility of working at Trans-matic full time.
