Description of the Organization
Herman Miller is a global company with roughly 8000 employees. They supply the furniture market with multiple types of chairs, cabinets, tables, panels and other office furniture.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester I was given much more responsibility. I was taking on projects where I was the main engineer from start to finish. Some of these included figuring out the problem, designing the drawings needed, writing the program, purchasing the parts, and overseeing the install of the machine.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I developed my skills in AutoCAD electrical and also ladder logic coding. I also learned more about managing projects and communicating what needs to be done.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I had 2 really large projects where I designed everything from start to finish. These were the most fun since I was the main engineer so I really felt responsible for them.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Herman Miller showed me the world of controls when that wasn't necessarily what I wanted, but I'm glad they did. I had no idea I would enjoy it as much as I have, and I hope to go into the controls engineering field.
