Description of the Organization
SoundOff Signal is a small Michigan based company that designs, develops, and produces lights and sirens mainly for police, EMS, and Fire vehicles.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
The internal projects I completed included, but were not limited to, designing a part in CAD for our goniometer to fix the chain slack, designing an LED sign for Project Night Lights, and creating an updatable bracket wall with all of our sellable vehicle specific accessories. I was also tasked with designing multiple sellable bracket products.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The skills gained throughout this experience included CAD skills, networking, production processes, professionalism, prioritizing, working with customers, presentation skills, how to present a product I designed myself, sheet metal processes, and many others.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op was how welcoming and friendly everyone at soundoff was/is. The company culture helped me become more comfortable asking questions and did a phenomenal job affirming the work I had done throughout the summer. I am leaving this co-op more confident in becoming an engineer.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience confirmed that I am headed on the path that is best suited for me. As an engineer and a firefighter, my dream job is to design fire trucks. Designing lights and sirens that are for fire trucks (and other vehicles) is very close to where I want to be in the future. I knew I was in the right place when I was happy going into work each and every day.
