JR Automation is a company that automates manufacturing processes for other companies in order to reduce the amount workers needed and to improve overall efficiency of a product or assemblies.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
For this rotation, I was assigned to the quoting department. I would put together full quotes that would be sent out to customers for potential work.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained knowledge of how much overall machines cost. Going through each individual component of a machine made me think about how much money, time and effort actually goes into developing one.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the experience was how involved the quoters were with the customers and with everybody in the company. I set up, ran and attended multiple meetings with different departments internal to JR Automation and different customers which gave me a better overall perspective of the engineering field as a whole.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I really loved how involved I was throughout the entire process of developing a concept and developing the physical machine. I believe I would be very good at doing this in the future even though originally I intended on being in the mechanical engineering field, not applications engineering.
