Yanfeng Automotive Interiors (YFAI) is the global leader in automotive interiors. The company has approximately 110 manufacturing plants and technical centers in 20 countries and more than 33,000 employees globally. They design, develop and manufacture automotive interior components for all automakers. The Holland, MI location is the lead North American technical facility.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Various tasks for the product engineering team on the launch of a BMW center console. Projects mostly related to part design changes, root cause analysis for quality issues, fulfilling testing requirements, and updating technical drawings. In this rotation, I traveled to two YFAI facilities out of state to support production work there and had a level of responsibility equal to a full-time hired engineer.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Knowledge of plastic injection molding and tooling, GD&T and technical drawings, working in a large and cross-functional team, communicating with suppliers and customers.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Getting to learn from people in many different engineering roles working on the same launch program, and the opportunity to travel.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I'm planning to stay with YFAI after graduation!
