Description of the Organization
Navico Group is a company that designs and produces many different types of boating and fishing equipment. Navico Group is a division of Brunswick Corporation and is a supplier to many other manufacturers in the marine industry.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
A few projects that I have completed this semester include multiple fixture designs and assemblies, running a thirteen trolling motor prototype build, and rapid prototyping to rework unfinished products.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through these projects, a skill that I learned was how to manage multiple tasks with tight timelines and little to no budget. Most of the projects that I work on are not given a budget, but are still expected to be done in a very minimal time period. This has taught me how to work well under short deadlines and to become creative and cost effective with my solutions to problems. These deadlines have also made me much more assertive when expectations are unreasonable.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of my co-op semester was being able to build a career fair display that encompassed many of Navico Group's products. This display was fully interactive so that students could see how multiple units could work together in one complete system.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Working at Navico Group has influenced me to stay in the consumer goods industry, more specifically the outdoor sports industry. The outdoors have always been one of my passions, so being able to work in the industry designing products to improve the consumer experience would be a dream come true. I hope to continue working at Navico Group as a full time engineer.
