Description of the Organization
I was a quoting intern at JR Automation in Holland, MI. I was responsible for developing a concept to automate a certain process, and then I would develop a cost for the concept to send to the customer.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I quoted material handling cells that would use robots to move parts around and torque bolts to a certain specification. I quoted mold tending cells with robots that would retrieve molded plastic parts from and injection mold machine. I quoted assembly stations that would verify the operator assembled a part correctly. JR has a vast customer base and there were very few quotes that were alike.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Developed my communications skills with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Learned the basics of automation.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Seeing my biggest quote pay off with a purchase order. Not all quotes get bought by the customers, but I had a big quote I worked on where all my hard work paid off.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has given me a taste for several aspects of manufacturing and it has given me insight into what I want in a career and what I can live without that I previously thought I needed.
