Description of the Organization
Trans-matic specializes in deep drawn metal stamping. They make small metal components for mostly automotive and residential lock hardware applications. They have a plant in China and Mexico and supply parts to companies around the world.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was assigned tasks throughout the semester that required me to design new tooling to make parts and to modify old tooling to improve our stamping processes. I also worked on a task researching new 3D printing technology that we might want to implement at Trans-matic
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained more 3D modeling experience. I also gained experience in working with outside suppliers when researching 3D printing technology. I learned a lot about the design process and how tooling is designed to form metal components.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this experience is working hard to design something and then being able to see it go through the toolroom and then be implemented in the press.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have become more passionate about working in a manufacturing environment. I enjoy the bustling environment and being able to produce the everyday items that people normally would take for granted.
