Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This is my third and final co-op rotation at JR and it has definitely been the best one so far. I've had the opportunity to be very hands with the machines I've worked on. I've been able to design the electrical systems, program the machines, work with robots, design the operator touch screen layouts, troubleshoot wiring and pneumatic issues, attend meetings with the customers, and travel to the customers location for machine installation.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I've gained proficiency in PLC programming, electrical and pneumatic schematics and CAD programs, communication protocols, robot interfacing, and power system design.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really enjoyed the responsibility level that was given to me. It was empowering and it motivated me.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Industrial automation is great and I have really enjoyed my time there. I didn't go to college to become a controls engineer, but I feel this experience will serve me very well in just about any career path I end up going down; especially considering how widespread automation is becoming.
