Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
For my first co-op rotation I was assigned to quoting. Companies looking for automated manufacturing solutions send JR Automation a "request for quote" document that outlines the requirements and specifications of the machine they would like us to provide them. I was assigned many quotes during my co-op semester. The tasks associated with these quotes included developing a concept and cost for the potential machine to be designed and built. This required contacting vendors for large components of the machine and meeting with our internal engineers to build on past experience.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned how to communicate efficiently my ideas to people with and without engineering backgrounds. All of my quotes required me to host a meeting with other engineers to discuss my ideas and get input from those who have more experience than I.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op experience was developing concepts in CAD for potential machines. It was exciting to be creating the very first ideas of how a machine will work and what it might look like.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced me to pursue a career at JR Automation Technologies after I graduate.
