Description of the Organization
The Community Health & Wellness Department at Metro Health focuses on promoting healthy living to the community and Metro Health employees. They coordinate a variety of programs such as exercise classes, nutrition seminars, and body screens at little or no cost.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Some of the tasks I completed while at my internship include, but are not exclusive to-entering class evaluations into the computer, writing features for weekly emails, registering people for classes, distributing flyers throughout the hospital, and attending evening events.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
As an intern for the Community Health & Wellness Department, I gained insight into how a department works. I became very comfortable using Microsoft Excel, learned how important it is to promote health living to the community, and improved my skills on communicating with a variety of healthcare professionals.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the experience was the events I got to attend such as the Twisted Tailgate cooking class, a vegan seminar, and a kid's cooking class.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my future career goals by solidifying my desire to work in the health professions field. It increased my knowledge on how a department works, and showed me that even a small department such as the one I was a part of, can make a big difference in the community.
