Description of the Organization
NN Inc. specializes in precision machining serving markets in electrical, automotive, general industrial, medical, and aerospace. NN designs and manufactures metal components using CNC machining and complex, multi-spindle lathes. Specializing in quality, NN Inc. has expanded globally to provide data driven decisions and resources to their customers.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester I had more independence and had control of my own product line. I provided assistance to each process on the line on mostly day-to-day operations. I also had the opportunity to learn a new machining operation which included learning the process flow, maintaining the machines, and increasing production.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained knowledge in communication skills with the machinists and engineers, technical skills while learning new processes, and mechanical skills operating and trouble-shooting machines. Most importantly I learned a lot of problem solving skills working on new machines and processes to contribute to the continuous improvement goals.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Through the work I accomplished in my other co-op experiences I was given more independence to get my work done, knowing the impact benefitted the company. The mentors I learned from were all very knowledgeable and helped me accomplish my goals as a young engineer.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Without knowing which direction I wanted to take with my degree, this co-op experience has left me with an appreciation towards the manufacturing industry. I also learned the importance of how valuable it is to grow your learning being surrounded by mentors who are more than willing to help and want to see you succeed.
