Description of the Organization
Bowling Green State University's Recreation and Wellness Department provides unique opportunities for recreation, wellness, and student development; promotes healthy lifestyles to the University and surrounding communities. One of the facilities that they oversee is the Student Recreation Center, which is where I spent my time during the internship. I work with student staff, as well as professional staff.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Part of my internship was helping oversee the day to day operations of the Student Recreation Center and the student employees. Some of the tasks included: Sell membership passes and program registrations, operate various computer applications, perform periodic inspections of sports equipment and facilities, assist with the set up and take down of equipment and events, and work special events such as facility rentals and parties.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I have gained problem solving skills through having to think on my feet and thinking through solutions to different problems that arise. Teamwork is also a big part of how BGSU operates and being able to work in a team is a skill that I have been able to grow during my time. I have been able to grow upon my multi-tasking skills through working in an environment that can become fast and exciting!
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship is getting to build relationships with all of the employees of the rec center. Being able to build such good relationships has made my entry to the team smooth and easy. It has made the job even more enjoyable than it already was.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has allowed me to gain experience that I will be able to take with me wherever my path takes me. It has made me realize just how much I enjoy working in the sports field and reassured me that I enjoy what I am doing and what I plan to do in the future.
