Description of the Organization
Disher is a engineering service firm that contracts out both personnel and design/development/manufacturing services and consultations. It has a unique, proactive culture that is inspired by all of the employees, even down to the newest intern. Innovation on all levels and great customer service are the corner stones on which it grows.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was involved in multiple and varied projects. These include, but are not limited to: office chair/furniture design, testing and documentation, office re-modelling (some design work was involved with this project as well), prototyping on various projects, cycle testing of products, refurbishing of a CNC mill, project management, and SolidWorks drawing and modelling.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained advanced experience with SolidWorks, insight into the usefulness of prototyping and testing before deciding on a final design, project management experience, time management experience, more experience with soldering and circuit analysis/debugging, testing design, brainstorming, benchmarking, experience purchasing from suppliers, and budgeting.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite parts of my co-op with Disher were the variety of the assignments I was given and the positive culture of the company.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have a better understanding of what aspects of engineering I enjoy and want to further look into in choosing my career path, as well as the kind of company culture I work best in.
