Description of the Organization
The Legacy is a massive complex with soccer, baseball, football, rugby, and lacrosse fields. There are indoor volleyball courts, a weight room, and a fulltime sports medicine trainer on site. We have everything from house teams for just about every sport to large tournaments where teams come from all across the nation. Every day hundreds, if not thousands, of customers fill our facility.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I helped operate all events. This includes setting up and tearing down, making sure the refs are getting paid, and keeping parents and players happy throughout the process. I also worked the front desk a lot where I would register teams for leagues, register individuals, take payments, and explain the schedule to people who were trying to find their way.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned how to deal with disgruntled parents or players in a professional manner. I also took my phone/communicating skills to a whole new level. The process of planning a big tournament has so much behind the scenes activity that I am also now aware of.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Watching the sport world unfold. Watching competitive teams compete at a high level and be happy to do so on our fields/courts. Being around sports every single second of the job is something I did not take for granted.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
The most beneficial part of the experience is the fact that I now work here fulltime, with a salary. I built confidence throughout every stressful situation.
