Description of the Organization
MSA (Michigan Sports Academies) is a well known sports association that includes an entity for every sport. MSA hosts sport tournaments of all kinds, sport camps, and other things. MSA works to create relationships with athletes and help them prosper in their craft. I worked with the soccer buliding, known as MFA (michigan futbol academy). The soccer building is in charge of the club Michigan Revolution, one of the most well known soccer clubs in Michigan.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Throughout my internship, I completed many tasks. On the daily, I would book hotel rooms for entire teams, and families. I would call hotels and create room blocks for numerous teams, which took a lot of patience and time. I also sent out mass emails weekly to the soccer club families informing them of weekly updates. I also took on my own team as a coach, and got to learn the sport management side of coaching. I answered phone calls, helped with event coordination etc. Each day there is a different task assigned.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained many skills throughout this experience, one of the biggest being communication. I learned how to communicate properly via email as I would send large emails to an entire association. I also learned how to communicate face to face with my bosses, and have difficult conversations. Another aspect of communication I gained was customer service, talking to people daily on the phone. My confidence has increased immensely due to the amount of communication skills I have gained from this internship.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite party of this internship was being able to learn more about the coaching side of soccer, as well as the business side of soccer. I had no idea how much work went into running an entire soccer club, and to be able to witness it first hand as really special for me. I also loved the people I worked with. They made what was supposed to be an internship/job into something extremely fun for me. I looked forward to entering the office everyday!
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has helped me realize that whatever career I pursue, I want it to be one in soccer. My passion lies with soccer, and knowing there is a way to turn my passion into my job is so amazing. This internship has opened my eyes to so many things in the soccer world and i could not be more thankful for this experience. I will take what I learned with me wherever my next path takes me.
