Description of the Organization
The Borgen Project is a national non-profit organization that works to help advocate for the world's poor. Constituents of The Borgen Project work at the political level to help spread awareness. Interns work remotely. It's a large organization with volunteers in over 405 cities.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
The internship revolved around completing tasks on a weekly tracker. It was really well structured and easy to follow. The tasks were anything from a 1-mile campaign to reaching out to local congressional leaders. A lot of the internship revolved around spreading awareness about the organization and key issues.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained a lot of knowledge/experience reaching out to congressional leaders and their offices. It really helped me gain the confidence and knowledge of how to approach professional phone calls and meetings. This internship also helped me with my organizational and time management skills.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part was being able to create the campaigns and materials myself. I was able to personalize everything and be in charge of it. It was a good way to get my first exposure to applying things I learned in class to the real world.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my future career goals by making me really consider what kind of organization I want to be involved with. Everyone I interacted with form The Borgen Project was so nice and really believed in helping others. I can't imagine looking for a job after graduation and not having those qualities at the top of my list.
