Description of the Organization
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is an international organization devoted to developing the economies of its 34 member countries. The OECD's mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD office in Washington D.C. is the OECD liaison to the United States and Canada. The Washington Center works with the US Government, business, academia, and the media to provide information on the OECD's work.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I drafted media advisories and press releases resulting in increased coverage for the OECD's work. I compiled media reviews for the Secretary-General of the OECD, on the 2014 U.N. Climate Summit and the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. I would update the OECD contacts database to improve the efficiency of media campaigns. Preparing daily press clips for staff and monitoring news sources for articles of interest to the OECD was a task I would regularly do. My most frequent task was operating the OECD Washington Center's social media devices like Facebook and Twitter.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I have greatly improved my research and writing skills at my internship at the OECD Washington Center. I have also become much more familiar with communications and media knowledge.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I enjoyed attending external events on behalf of the OECD. Listening to discussions and presentations hosted by the World Bank and IMF were particularly fascinating for me.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I am now able to move on to future goals with confidence and clarity. My Washington experience has helped me overcome my weaknesses, harness my strengths, connect academic lessons with real world settings, acquire a greater understanding of the meaning of leadership, and helped me plan my future career.
