Description of the Organization
Autocam is a corporation located in Kentwood that specializes in high-precision components. The company is split into areas by customer, and is part of NN Inc. Three facilities in Kentwood and many more globally.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
The tasks and projects that I completed ranged from troubleshooting machines, to recording data, and managing processes. I spent a majority of my time working with prototype parts, helping the process and ultimately ensuring that the parts are of the highest quality.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this experience I gained a great deal of knowledge about manufacturing practices, processes, and technical knowledge about making precision components. My experience gave me the opportunity to learn about process capability, how to improve processes, and how to interact with a customer to provide a quality product efficiently.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this experience was working with people to understand more about detailed concepts. Some of my time was spent working with machinists to understand how a part is made and how we can make it better.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
My co-op experience has influenced my future career goals by introducing me to a new industry that I did not know about, and it turns out that I really enjoy the work here and want to pursue a career in manufacturing.
