Description of the Organization

Disher Design and Development is a company that offers complete engineering and business services that cover product conception, design, manufacturing, business solutions, industrial design, failure analysis, and redesign. It is involved in most facets of the engineering field.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I mostly worked on supporting projects that were lead by an engineer. Specific tasks included prototyping concepts for function and appearance, CAD modeling, idea generation, design reviews, quality/failure analysis studies, and even assembling small batch end products. This included the use of 3D printers.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained knowledge of the contract engineer-customer business relationship, test design, mechanism design, CAD SolidWorks experience, circuit knowledge, and design process experience.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I love the culture at Disher. It encourages you to set and accomplish your own goals. It also urges you to be an active participant in optimizing designs and processes. Lastly, it promotes making a positive difference in all its business activities as well as in the community. This makes for a rewarding work experience.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

My time at Disher has taught me that learning in the engineering field never stops. Indeed, if your learning plateaus, you are becoming less competitive and efficient at your career. Furthermore, this experience has taught me that making mistakes are okay as long as you can accept them and learn from them (don't insist that your faulty line of thought is best). At Disher, the best idea wins the day.
