Description of the Organization
"MFP Automation Engineering was founded in 1991 and has grown to become one of the Top 30 distributors in the country. We are formerly known as Michigan Fluid Power and specialize in fluid power, pneumatics, hydraulics, manifolds, custom power units, and much more!" MFP is a relatively small company with around 100 employees. MFP is a family owned and operated business with a very laid back structure but tasks are prioritized well.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I spent time in our production shop learning basic shop practices including milling, welding, making hoses for power units, testing the units, as well as prepping for paint. During my time in engineering, I gained more experience with AutoCAD for our 2D drawings of power units. With more part familiarization, I was able to begin quoting my own projects.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The skills I gained include welding, milling, and other shop practices as well as drawing in AutoCAD and SolidWorks and producing a quote for a hydraulic power unit.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the co-op experience was working in the shop to see a power unit be built from scratch and learning how to weld.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have gained valuable experience at MFP Automation Engineering that I can take to many other industries. I have learned I do not want to end up in hydraulics for the rest of my life, but I appreciate the time I have spent here.
